For the first edition of Klassiek aan de Schelde in Antwerp, we present CARMEN, THE SPANISH FURIE in the garden of the Royal Yacht Club of Belgium on the banks of the Scheldt on the Left Bank. The river and the skyline of Antwerp are the mighty backdrop.
This new production by La Volta stage productions and Klassiek in het Groen presents masterpieces from Carmen, the magnificent opera by Georges Bizet. According to artistic director Robert Groslot, Carmen is the best opera ever written. The overture, the arias, the choral songs, they are all world famous. The dramatic story of the most fatal of all femmes is set in the beautiful Seville of the nineteenth century. Robert Groslot and his orchestra the Great Globe Orchestra shine, the choir Fine Fleur sings the tiles of the Sevilian rooftops, Charlotte Wajnberg plays the endearing Micaela, Stefan Cifolelli takes on the role of Don José, Paul Gay personifies the confident and successful Escamillo, and Héloïse Mas – the world famous French mezzo-soprano – was born to be Carmen, her charm and seduction set everything on fire!
